Pizza delivery man shot in Falls stick-up

NIAGARA FALLS – A 31-year-old man delivering subs and wings for Ventry’s Pizza was shot in the knee after a struggle during an armed robbery just before midnight on Wednesday in the 1800 block of Cleveland Avenue.

The victim was taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.

The deliveryman said he was walking up the driveway on Cleveland Avenue to make a delivery at 11:55 p.m. Tuesday when a man in a dark hooded sweatshirt approached him from behind and pulled out a pistol.

The victim said he immediately threw the food he was carrying at the armed man and attempted to tackle him. In the struggle, the gun went off and the robber ran westbound on Cleveland Avenue. The victim said he ran down 22nd Street, back to Ventry’s, unaware he was shot.

Police returned to the scene and found some of the pizza and a container of wings were gone. They secured the victim’s car, which appeared undisturbed with two cell phones still inside.
