Man charged with looting dead grandmother’s house

LOCKPORT – A man pleaded not guilty Wedbesday in Niagara County Court to an indictment accusing him of thefts from the home of his dead grandmother about Nov. 30.

Henri J. Alfiere, 31, of no permanent address, is charged with third-degree grand larceny and second-degree criminal mischief. Named in the indictment on the same charges plus third-degree burglary are his sister, Janelle Alfieri, 34, and Daniel L. Pelfrey, 39, both of Lindbergh Avenue.

The burglary charge pertains to alleged thefts between April and December 2013 from a garage across the street from the grandmother’s residence. Her house had been condemned by city inspectors, Assistant District Attorney Claudette S. Caldwell said.
