Dunkirk man jailed for firing at another man

MAYVILLE – A 24-year-old Dunkirk man arrested after a late night shooting Sunday was being held Tuesday in the Chautauqua County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail on felony weapons and other charges.

Justin C. Matteson of Ruggles Street, Dunkirk, was taken into custody in a backyard at Lincoln Avenue and Talcott Street about 9:50 p.m. Sunday after allegedly firing a .357 Magnum revolver at a man during an argument in front of his home a short time earlier. Police quickly set up a perimeter after the gunfire, which did not injure anyone, captured Matteson and recovered his loaded revolver. He faces further proceedings in Dunkirk City Court within the week.
