Wilson Memorial Day Fair is a big seller

WILSON – Bargain hunters know it’s Memorial Day weekend when the Wilson Historical Society holds its annual Memorial Day Fair, featuring one of the largest flea markets in the county.

This year, the 42nd annual event is planned from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday on the museum grounds at 645 Lake St. The American Legion will hold a special Memorial Day flag-raising ceremony at noon.

The Super Flea Market will feature more than 250 vendors, with free entertainment provided by the Bar Room Buzzards. The Antique Car Museum also will be open, and a special section will be set aside on the grounds for participants to display their own antique and collectible cars, with dashboard plaques provided to those who participate.

Food is also another favorite feature of this event. Chiavetta’s Chicken Bar-B-Q will be sold from 10:30 a.m. until it’s gone. Other fair-type food will include hot dogs and hamburgers, cotton candy, homemade pies, snow cones, coffee and doughnuts, soft drinks and bottled water.

The Museum Depot will be open for visitors, featuring exhibits and displays. The public is invited to visit the Caboose, Fittro Shop, One-Room Schoolhouse and the Tugwell Cabin. Raffle tickets will be sold for a queen-size “Kaleidoscope” quilt, which will be on display.

Parking is free at the museum and in lots throughout the village, with a shuttle bus provided to take visitors to the grounds.

The Wilson Historical Society is a nonprofit, volunteer organization.
