Living Fair will offer info on organic gardening

Everything you need to know about organic gardening will be available at the Living Fair in Hamburg’s Giving Garden on Pleasant Avenue on June 6.

The community garden across from Union-Pleasant Elementary School serves as an outdoor classroom for children and families in the community.

Run by the small non-profit Seeds of Living Education (SOLE), the garden has been growing since 2009. SOLE’s mission is to encourage lifelong, nutritious eating habits by offering school children a hands-on, educational experience in a living classroom in a natural environment.

The Garden Club meets weekly during nice weather, and classrooms and teachers have the garden available to them throughout the school year. Families and volunteers help maintain it through the summer months. The Giving Garden offers hands-on opportunities with volunteers who have a love of all things related to organic gardening.

Local businesses that offer supplies, information, organic products and food for families in the community will be featured at the Living Fair, which will take place from 6-8:30 p.m. June 6.

There also will be information on backyard chicken keeping, Reinstein Nature Preserve will sell vermicompost (composting with worms) kits and David Clark will make an organic gardening presentation and answer questions.

There will be a garden craft for children and entertainment with Alison Pipitone.
