Kelly Kiedyk and Jonathan Vollmer wed in Buffalo

When Kelly Kiedyk and Jonathan Vollmer did their graduate studies at the University at Buffalo, they ended up with more than just master’s degrees in business administration.

Kiedyk and Vollmer met in August 2010, and began dating.

“It was our first semester and we did a very brief project with another classmate and afterwards I thought he was a bit of a curmudgeon,” wrote Kelly, in an email. “The following semester we were in the same stats group and I having been a history major was horrible at math, Jonathan being an engineer was great at it.

“As I relied on him for help we became friends and it eventually turned to romance.”

And now, they are newly married – after a Buffalo-themed celebration.

Their wedding took place at Blessed Sacrament Church in Buffalo on May 17. Afterward, guests gathered for a reception at the Buffalo History Museum.

Photographs were taken of the bridal party in downtown locations. And the evening before the wedding, the rehearsal dinner was held at Chef’s restaurant.

All those city-focused locations were chosen by the couple to give the wedding a special flavor.

“They knew right from the start they wanted to get married in the city,” said Kelly’s mother, Mary Ellen Kiedyk of Amherst. “It really worked out great.”

The couple put it this way, in Kelly’s email: “We thought having our wedding in the heart of the city would give all of our out of town guests ... an opportunity to see why we loved it as well.”

The couple got engaged on the night before the bride’s 30th birthday – March 17 of last year – during an evening that included dinner at the Left Bank.

Vollmer, 29, a Hamburg resident, is from Oneida and graduated from Clarkson University with his undergraduate degree in engineering. The bride, 31, who grew up in Amherst, earned a history degree from Hobart and William Smith College, and also studied abroad in New Zealand.

The couple is making their home in Hamburg.

The bride is employed at Family Choice of New York, and the groom at IMA Life.
