From ‘Just Married’ to just looted out of $8,000

A pair of Niagara Falls newlyweds woke up to a devastating discovery Saturday morning.

Alyssa Argy and Darren Summers, both of Niagara Falls, were married Friday evening near the Erie Basin Marina and spent their wedding night at the Hyatt Regency downtown. A hotel valet sent their car with the “Just Married” adornments to a lot at Pearl and West Huron streets at about 1 a.m. Saturday, police said.

When the newlyweds returned to the car at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, they discovered the vehicle had been entered. A wicker basket containing cash and checks valued at more than $8,000 was missing from the trunk, as were various presents, Summers’ luggage and more.

“We woke up, and we were happy because we’re married now,” Argy said. “Then we found out that all the money people had given us was taken away. It’s pretty upsetting.”

There were no signs of forced entry, which means the car could have been left unlocked.

Argy first called her family members to make sure they hadn’t taken the goods, then she checked with the wedding venue to see if any of it was there.

When neither of those inquiries proved fruitful, the couple filed a report with hotel management.

A police officer told Argy the case has been handed over to detectives.
