Sanvidge appointed leader of Chautauqua County IDA and Department of Planning

MAYVILLE – A Fredonia resident will take over as leader of Chautauqua County’s Industrial Development Agency and Department of Planning.

Kevin M. Sanvidge was named the new director at a special session Wednesday in the office of County Executive Vince Horrigan. The county executive said that Sanvidge will be sensitive to the issues of the loss of the Carriage House plant in Fredonia. The closing of the plant was announced earlier this year by parent company ConAgra.

The closing will mean the loss of several hundred jobs and millions of dollars in taxes, and water and sewer revenues for the county and Fredonia.

Sanvidge said he is coming out of retirement to “give back” to the county. His new post starts Tuesday.

Sanvidge was the executive vice president of supply for Cliffstar Corp. from 1999 to 2011. Prior to that he worked for Al Tech Specialty Steel for 21 years. He was vice president of administration. Both are Dunkirk companies. Additionally, he is a member of the board of directors of Lake Shore Savings Bank.

“It was the county executive’s winning attitude that convinced me to give something back to the community,” said Sanvidge.

Sandvidge said he wants to return an investment to the “shareholders of Chautauqua County.”

The county executive said priorities for the new director will be to attract new businesses and maintain existing jobs.

He replaces Bill Daly, who is retiring at the end of this month.
