Lockport man admits role in burglary

LOCKPORT – A Lockport man admitted in Niagara County Court Thursday that he took part in a March 29 burglary and robbery at an apartment on Pine Street in that city.

Alexis W. Cruz, 17, of Genesee Street, pleaded guilty to third-degree burglary and faces up to seven years in prison when he is sentenced Aug. 14 by County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas, who kept him in jail in lieu of $15,000 bail in the meantime. Cruz will owe the victim $140 in restitution when he is released.

His co-defendant, Demitrius R. Cole, 19, of Gooding Street, was offered a plea deal Wednesday to wrap up that case and two other felonies. Cole was asked to plead guilty to third-degree burglary and to attempted second-degree robbery, the latter for an April 2 mugging of a Niagara Falls man outside a restaurant on Main Street. Cole also is charged with a Nov. 16 beating in the Town of Lockport, Assistant District Attorney Claudette S. Caldwell said.

Charges also are pending against a co-defendant in the April 2 mugging, Ralph L. Williams III, 17, of Webb Street, Lockport.
