Mayor Byron W. Brown said he took his name out of consideration for a place on the Democrats’ statewide ticket as Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s running mate.

“I spoke with Governor Cuomo last night and withdrew my name from consideration to run for lieutenant governor because I want to continue to focus on the great progress we are making in the City of Buffalo,” Brown said in a statement issued today. “I look forward to continuing to work closely with the governor and his administration.”

Democrats are meeting in Long Island for their statewide convention. Most of the party’s endorsed candidates are known well in advance, but the exception is Cuomo’s choice for lieutenant governor.
