UB center is host to workshop for would-be entrepreneurs

Eight would-be entrepreneurs will get feedback from business, legal and financial experts during a three-day “Pre-Seed Workshop” that begins Wednesday night on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.

The researchers, innovators and inventors taking part in the workshop are from the life-sciences and high-tech fields. They are being matched with experts who will try to help them get their ideas out of the laboratory and on the path to commercialization.

The workshop begins with an opening reception Wednesday night, followed by a full day of breakout sessions Thursday on topics such as how to assess the revenue potential or the size of the market for their ideas. The budding entrepreneurs on May 29 will give 15-minute presentations on their innovations and receive reactions from the panel of experts.

The University at Buffalo’s New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics & Life Sciences is hosting the workshop. Sessions will be held at the bioinformatics center and the neighboring Roswell Park Center for Genetics and Pharmacology.

Other sponsors include Empire State Development’s Division of Science, Technology and Innovation, or NYSTAR; the Hodgson Russ law firm; and the New York State Science and Technology Law Center.
