Eva Presant, was active in Jewish community

Eva “Eve” Presant, an active member of the Jewish community, died Friday in Hartford, Conn. She was 84.

A native of Buffalo, the former Eva Rosenberg attended School 74 and graduated from Fosdick-Masten Park High School. She worked as a secretary in her father’s electrical business before her marriage in 1950.

She was a member of Temple Shaarey Zedek, served in its Sisterhood and managed its Judaica Gift Shop for many years. She was a life member of Hadassah and a volunteer at the Kadimah School of Buffalo. She was an organizer of many fundraiser events at the day school and synagogue.

After her children were grown, Mrs. Presant worked alongside her husband in their family-owned pawnshop, Exchange Loan Jewelry Co., a staple on Chippewa Street. The business closed in 1998, having served generations of customers for 60 years.

In 2008, Mrs. Presant moved to West Hartford, Conn., to be near her daughter.

Her husband of 52 years, Zeldon M. “Breezy” Presant, died Oct. 1, 2002.

Survivors include two sons, Lawrence and Neil; a daughter, Susan Presant Kurtis; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Amherst Memorial Chapel, 281 Dodge Road, Getzville.
