Aaron E. Jantzi, of Getzville, a mechanic and auto supply store owner, died Saturday in Brothers of Mercy Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clarence, after a lengthy illness. He was 81.
Born in Elma, he grew up in Alden, worked on his father’s dairy farm and attended Alden schools.
Mr. Jantzi served in the Naval Reserve.
A mechanic, he worked in Thuman & Jantzi Auto Repair on Millersport Highway in Getzville from 1957 to 1976, when he and his son, Gregory, opened Hamburg Automotive Supply, a NAPA auto parts store on Buffalo Street in Hamburg.
He retired from full-time work there in 1993, but continued part-time for several years.
An avid golfer, he was a 50-year member of Lancaster Country Club.
A devoted hockey father, at one time he had three sons playing on travel teams.
His wife of 55 years, Marion N. “Mickey” Thuman Jantzi, died in 2009.
Survivors include four sons, Jeffrey, Gregory, Timothy and Michael; a sister, Margaret Foth; two brothers, Peter and Earl; his companion, Lou Etta Knight; and nine grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1700 North French Road, Getzville.
