Staff cuts helped close a $750,000 budget gap in Cheektowaga-Sloan


What you need to know: Staff reductions made to close a $750,000 budget gap included eight teaching assistants, four teacher aides, a school psychologist and special-education consultant teacher, in addition to three retirement-related vacancies that will go unfilled.

Candidates (Elect 1):

• Sandra M. Kuzara (i), 49, a paraplanner for Anthony Baldi and Associates, with two children who are graduates of John F. Kennedy High School

• Zachary Smith, 49, works as a machinist and has one child attending school in the district.

Total budget: $33,817,515, up 1.15 percent

Tax levy*: $15,089,534, up 1.39 percent

Tax levy increase allowed under tax cap: 3 percent

Property tax rate per $1,000 of assessed value: $32.74 in Cheektowaga, up less than .5 percent; and $76.33 in West Seneca, up 3.91 percent

Polls open: Noon to 9 p.m. in the gym of John F. Kennedy High School, 305 Cayuga Creek Road.
