Maryvale schools expect little change


What you need to know: Several staffing changes, including additions for English as a second language and remedial math, and the elimination of 4.2 teaching positions due to retirement, are the main highlights of Maryvale’s $38.3 million budget that maintains the status quo. Concerns that budget shortfalls would eliminate athletic and extra-curricular programs were eased when New York offered additional aid. “Everything we have this year, we’ll have next year,” said Superintendent Deborah Ziolkowski.

• Craig Meyers, 47, engineer at Moog, father of two and member of Maryvale Strategic Planning Committee

• James Vandette, 32, civil litgation attorney who went to Maryvale schools from kindergarten through graduation

Tax levy*: $19.37 million, s 1.84 percent.

Tax levy increase allowed under tax cap: 1.84 percent.

Polls open: Noon to 9 p.m. in the Robert A. Binner building at 1050 Maryvale Drive.
