Lockport to go purple for cancer fundraiser

LOCKPORT – More than 30 downtown Lockport businesses and two elementary schools have signed up for the annual “Paint the City Purple” promotion in advance of next month’s American Cancer Society Relay for Life, organizer Heidi Rug said.

Friday, Mayor Anne E. McCaffrey will read a proclamation at 10 a.m. in front of City Hall, declaring it “Paint the City Purple Day.” A panel of five judges will check out the purple decorations at the participating stores, using this year’s theme of “Star-Spangled Relay.” The two elementary schools, Roy B. Kelley and Charles Upson, will be judged Thursday.

The awards for the best decorations will be announced during the annual Relay for Life fundraiser, which will last from 2 p.m. June 14 to 6 a.m. June 15 on the track at Emmet Belknap Intermediate School.
