Legal Aid director charged with injury DWI

The executive director of the Legal Aid Bureau of Buffalo was charged Saturday with driving while intoxicated, after the vehicle he was driving struck a 15-year-old girl on her bike, fracturing her lower leg.

Police believe David C. Schopp, 57, caused the accident after driving through a barricaded area closed for road construction.

Town of Tonawanda police say the Amherst teen was hit around 7:10 p.m. Saturday at Ellicott Creek Road and Colvin Avenue. She was treated at Women’s and Children’s Hospital and released.

Investigation Unit officers say the cause of the crash is still under investigation, Schopp, who is an attorney, is due to appear in court June 9.
