City of Tonawanda school budget would cut 3 positions

What you need to know: Tonawanda leaders are hoping a tax credit will encourage voters to forgive the district’s proposed 2.55 percent tax levy increase for the $30.7 million budget. New York is offering to pay the difference between this year’s and next year’s tax bill for qualified homeowners. It encouraged Tonawanda board members to vote for the budget, which includes equipment purchases for students. The budget would also eliminate three positions.

• Diane Misner (i), 56, a pediatric nurse

• Robert Starr II (i), 57, works in the transportation department at Lackawanna Best Western

Total budget: $30,716,755, up 2.87 percent

Tax levy*: $11.53 million, up 2.55 percent

Tax levy increase allowed under tax cap: 4.41 percent

Property tax rate per $1,000 of assessed value: $17.47, down 2.55 percent.

Polls open: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Wellness Gym of Tonawanda High School, 600 Fletcher St.
