Akron budget proposes slight increase in programs


What you need to know: The district still has a long way to go to close the “educational gap” created by funding cuts in previous years, but, fortunately, is looking at a slight increase in programs and services, according to Superintendent Kevin Shanley.

Candidates (Elect 2):

• Jody A. Brege, 42, self-employed small business owner with two children attending school in the district

• Diane Snyder, 44, owns and leases apartments, has one child attending school.

Total budget: $28,500,042, down 2.21 percent

Tax levy: $9,435,800, up 1.19 percent

Tax levy increase allowed under tax cap: 1.19 percent

Estimated property tax rate per $1,000 of assessed value: $16.04 in Newstead, up 0.75 percent; $32.08 in Alden, up 0.79 percent; and $16.04 in Clarence, up 0.75 percent


• Establishment of a capital reserve.

Polls open: Noon to 9 p.m. in the orange gym at the high school, 47 Bloomingdale Ave.
