Q: I like watching “Seinfeld” reruns, but I wonder why the credits never show who played New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. – Bill Simpson, Palm Coast, Fla.

A: The show’s makers clearly got a kick out of creating the illusion that it was Steinbrenner himself, and listing an actor who played him would have spoiled that … especially since his face was never seen. Lee Bear “played” Steinbrenner’s back, and the voice was supplied by none other than Larry David, the series’ co-creator, executive producer and frequent writer.

Q: I’ve heard the new season of “Rookie Blue” is starting earlier in Canada. When do we get it in the United States? – Julie Oliver, Cedarburg, Wis.

A: Yes, the show’s home country is getting Season 5 sooner – beginning this week, in fact – while ABC will start running it June 19. That’s actually earlier than American viewers were going to get it; initially, it wasn’t slated to begin until mid-July, but some scheduling changes set in motion by the delay of the new series “Astronaut Wives Club” earned the cops of 15 Division an earlier berth.

Q: Is it just a coincidence that Stephen Colbert was going to be free of his Comedy Central contract just in time to take over for David Letterman on CBS? – Steve Morgan, Grand Junction, Colo.

A: It was CBS’ decision to choose the successor, so even if Letterman had been thinking in those terms, there was no guarantee things would have gone that way. As for Colbert, he reportedly made his contract renewals at Comedy Central in line with Letterman’s at CBS … so that if he did get the call, he’d be available.
