OLAF FUB SEZ: According to essayist and screenwriter Nora Ephron, born on this date in 1941, “When your children are teenagers, it’s important to have a dog so that someone in the house is happy to see you.”

Garden Music

Sunny dependable dandelions

dot a moist carpet of rolling grass,

Jamming alongside rhododendron

as beautiful white butterflies pass.

A garden rake hurriedly refreshes

last winter’s famished flowering beds.

Slowpoke perennial beds bellow

to the breeze purring over their heads.

Even burly bunches of burdock

scramble for their time to sing

By the greening of a lush garden

kissed by a fortunate spring.

The melody of the dandelions’

ever harmonious refrain

Or the tempestuous staccato

of a quick benevolent rain.

A heavy bee’s solemn disposition

drags over a springtime path,

Clouds pop, lightning gasps

even evergreens relish their bath.

As the dutiful steady spade

turns the earth inside and out,

Gentle pearly pebbles rustle

by the music of the gutter spout.

Venerable glossy earthworms

slide effortlessly through the mud

While the uninvited hearty dandelions

appear luminous on nature’s rug.
