Brighten your day

Yellow is brightening up everything from dresses to handbags this spring, and it has made its way into home decor as well. We even spotted paper plates in a color called Yellow Sunshine.

Whether you use it a little or a lot, yellow definitely will not go unnoticed.

Pantone, the global color authority, includes a “blazing yellow” shade called Freesia as one of its top colors for spring, adding that this warm and energetic color “is sure to illuminate wardrobes this season.”

In addition to solid pieces, yellow also mixes with white and other colors such as orange and blue. Don’t want to wear it head to toe? How about a yellow handbag, just to perk things up a bit.

Good to go

Here are two tips from Better Homes and Gardens for packing your suitcase:

• Tightly roll as many clothes as you can to save space and keep clothes in better shape. Jeans, scarves, sweaters and cotton shirts all can be rolled.

• Put fine-fabric items on top with as few folds as possible. Avoid creases by placing dry-cleaning bags between them.

Designers speak

Some of the biggest names in fashion offer words of wisdom on a variety of topics in a new book from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), “The Pursuit of Style: Advice and Musings from America’s Top Fashion Designers” (Abrams, $19.95).

One example: When asked what they think every woman should own, designers shared the following:

Donna Karan: “Something that makes her feel long, lean and leggy.”

Trina Turk: “A vintage car.”

Nanette Lepore: “Silk pajamas.”

Pamela Roland: “A classic black dress and a fitted blazer to wear over it.”

Peter Som: “A very good bag and a very good watch.”

And finally ...

“When you find something you love, buy it in all colors and two in black.”

Patty Perreira, eye wear designer, sharing her fashion motto in “The Pursuit of Style.”
