NIAGARA FALLS – A thief ran up $741 in charges within minutes of stealing a Lewiston woman’s credit card on Friday afternoon, city police said.

The victim told police that her wallet was stolen from her car between 4 and 4:15 p.m. when she was in the M&T Military Road branch. Someone pried open her driver’s side door to gain entry, police said.

As she was calling her bank to cancel the stolen credit card, she learned that it had been used for a large purchase at the nearby Tops store, police said. Also stolen was $20 in Canadian money.
