The manager of Molly’s, where a man was beaten and left in grave condition last week, was charged this evening with first-degree assault.

Basil is accused of beating William Sager Jr., 28, at about 2 a.m. last Sunday. Sager was thrown down a flight of stairs in the University Heights bar, then handcuffed and dragged out of the bar in an unconscious state.

Molly’s is on Main Street near Winspear Avenue.

Detectives have conferred with the district attorney’s office in the attack, police said..

“The Buffalo Police Department is continuing to investigate every aspect of this serious assault, including any actions taken by off-duty officers at the scene,” said Dennis J. Richards, chief of detectives.

Police continue asking for any witnesses – and anyone with potential video evidence to come forward and call or text the Confidential TIPCALL Line at 847-2255.
