Opera-Lytes presents ‘She Loves Me’

As part of its year-long 20th anniversary celebration, Opera-Lytes has chosen a familiar and well-loved story.

“The Shop Around the Corner,” “In the Good Old Summertime” and “You’ve Got Mail” are three popular Hollywood films that all share the same story: a man and woman who, for various reasons, are at odds, unknowingly forge a romance through the written word (hand-written notes, email, etc.). It’s always quite a moment when they realize they have fallen for each other.

That same story is the basis for Jerry Bock’s 1963 Broadway musical “She Loves Me,” being performed this weekend by Opera-Lytes.

“She Loves me” is under the direction of Deb Jasinski with music direction by Paul Waara. It stars Nick Dzaplicki and Michelle Holden as the two people who have written to each other via a lonely hearts ad. Jeff Mokski, Jennifer Fitzery, Dale McKim, Raymond Castro and Ted Randell also star.

Shows are at 7:30 p.m. May 16, May 17 and 2:30 p.m. May 18 in Alleyway Theatre, 1 Curtain Up Alley. Tickets are $20. Call 837-3440 or visit www.operalytes.com.
