The crash happened at about 5:43 a.m. in the area of 2965 Niagara Falls Boulevard when the police officer tried to make a U-turn and collided with a 2007 Toyota, said Capt. Patrick McKenna of the Accident Investigation Unit.

The officer was transported to Erie County Medical Center and later released, McKenna said. The driver of the Toyota was taken to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital for evaluation.
