‘He had to die,’ accused mother tells police in son’s killing

The mother accused of killing her 8-year-old son early Wednesday told police she was “saving him from hell.”

“Everyone has to die. He had to die. I am saving him from going to hell,” Jessica Murphy told police, according to documents filed in City Court.

Later, when police sought additional information from her, Murphy said: “How can you ask me this after I just murdered my baby?”

The woman may have “medical issues” that are connected to the incident, authorities said.

Jacob Noe died of a stab wound, and his mother has been charged with second-degree murder.

Murphy, 29, her son and her mother lived in the second-floor apartment of the 2½-story house on Lovering.

Police said Murphy stabbed her son just before 1:45 a.m. He was taken to Women & Children’s Hospital, where he died about 2:30 a.m.

A friend of the family posted a note on the front door: “By our requests, we would appreciate our privacy while deal with our situation. Thank you.”

Neighbors described Murphy as a caring mother, often seen playing or walking with her son.

“It’s a shame. No one wins in this,” said Nancy Beenau, a neighbor who was out walking her dog this morning. “I saw the police and the ambulances in front of the house earlier today.”

Another neighbor said she heard screaming coming from the house early this morning and then police and ambulances arrived.

“This is terrible. We heard the screaming – ‘Help me, Help me.’ It was a woman screaming,” said Leslie Alagna.

The house with two apartments, upper and lower, is a neatly kept brick and wood structure, with porches on the first and second floors.

Lovering is north of Hertel between Colvin and Delaware.
