Rochester man imprisoned for Newfane DWI

LOCKPORT – A Rochester man, who pleaded guilty to felony driving while intoxicated in the wake of a Newfane arrest July 7, was sentenced to 1 1/3 to four years in state prison Monday.

However, Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas ordered that the sentence for Donald H. Wegman, 53, should be served simultaneously with a five-year sentence he recently was given in Monroe County for a carkjacking.

Sheriff’s deputies seized several cartons of untaxed cigarettes from the trunk of Wegman’s car when they pulled him over in Newfane. Monday, Wegman asked to get those back, but Farkas said she couldn’t order that, saying Wegman must take up that issue with law enforcement officers.
