Gun thief placed on probation

LOCKPORT – Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas is willing to place Kristopher L. Buehler on probation – if he proves he can handle the pressure during a trial run.

“I don’t think you can follow the rules of probation, so you have a chance to prove me wrong,” Farkas told Buehler, whom she placed on interim probation for six months, pending a final sentencing decision.

When he pleaded guilty in Feburary to fourth-degree grand larceny, Buehler, 29, of 18th Street, Niagara Falls, was promised a sentence of no more than a year in jail for the theft of a rifle and a shotgun from a house on Lake Road in Wilson April 18, 2013.

Buehler told a probation officer during a presentencing interview that he pleaded guilty only because sheriff’s deputies found the guns in his truck; he insisted he never entered the house. He originally said he and his mother found the weapons on the roadside.
