Hamburg vandals toss eggs on superintendent’s rental

Hamburg Central School District’s superintendent has been the target of vandalism for the second time in less than a week.

Richard Jetter, whose car was damaged in a school parking lot last Tuesday, said his rental vehicle was “egged” in the driveway of his Town of Tonawanda home sometime early Saturday morning.

Jetter said he dropped off his Nissan Friday, so the damaged door, side mirror and front quarter panel could be repaired, and he rented a brown Silverado pickup to use while his car was out of commission.

He said he discovered the Silverado with eggs on the windshield and passenger-side window Saturday morning. There also were eggs in the bushes and grass at his home. The truck was parked in the driveway.

“It probably happened between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m.,” he said.

The episode appears to be the latest in the soap opera-like drama that has been marked by warring factions on the School Board and community for more than three years.

Most recently, the School Board majority April 30 charged a board member with official misconduct. The board is expected to set a hearing date at its meeting Tuesday.

A vehicle struck Jetter’s personal car in a school parking lot while Jetter was inside attending a budget hearing Tuesday evening. He found the damage after the hearing, and also discovered a note tucked under his windshield wiper warning him to watch his back.

The incidents come in the run-up to the May 20 budget vote and election for School board. Six candidates are running for two seats on the board. One of them, Kevin Steffan, announced he was withdrawing Wednesday night because of false rumors linking him in to the board minority. He later changed his mind and decided to stay in the race.

Jetter seems unbowed by the incidents targeting him.

“Faceless cowards egging my rental car last night,” he said in a tweet Saturday afternoon. “Is that the best you got???”

Jetter reported the vandalism to Town of Tonawanda police.
