LOCKPORT – A Buffalo man who fired a stolen handgun into a group of people outside a Niagara Falls bar two years ago was sentenced to a year in the Niagara County Jail Friday.

Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas said she had placed Willie E. Mathews, 46, of Shirley Avenue, on interim probation six months ago, but he showed no effort to comply with its terms until the past three weeks. “Not impressed,” the judge said.

Mathews had admitted to reduced charges of attempted first-degree reckless endangerment and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property in connection with the incident outside the 3M Club on Highland Avenue in Niagara Falls about 3 a.m. June 10, 2012. No one was hurt by the gunfire from a 9mm pistol.
