A federal judge has dismissed a civil suit by the family of a 14-year-old Amherst girl that claims her diabetes is linked to high-fructose corn syrup.
The family sued six corn syrup manufacturers in Buffalo federal court last year seeking sought $5 million in damages.
The suit claims the girl was never warned about the risks of high-fructose corn syrup, a common ingredient in many foods, despite a well documented link with diabetes.
Lawyer J. Michael Hayes said the family will appeal the decision by Chief U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny. Skretny cited a number of legal reasons in dismissing the suit.
