Richard E. Naylon, longtime Amherst resident, World War II veteran and insurance executive, died April 16 in Sisters Hospital after a brief illness. He was 86.

Born in Buffalo, he was a graduate of Amherst High School, where he met his high school sweetheart, Nancy Henderson, when he was a senior and she was a freshman at Amherst High. They would have celebrated 65 years of marriage in November.

After graduating from Amherst High School in 1945, Mr. Naylon enlisted in the Army Air Forces. After the war he studied business at Canisius College and joined his father’s insurance agency, Maurice L. Naylon Inc., and served as an officer and executive until his retirement. Besides Mr. Naylon’s wife, Nancy, he is survived by two sons, Richard Jr. and Maurice; two daughters, Nancy Murphy and Susan Cataudella; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. July 18 in Calvary Episcopal Church, 20 Milton St., Williamsville.
