Buffalo woman slugs officer before being subdued

A Potomac Avenue woman suspected of severely beating a 5-year-old girl was forcibly subdued and forcibly put into a patrol car after she kept punching Buffalo Police Detective Jackie Sullivan in the head and face about 7 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Dian McGill, 38, was wrestled into the patrol car by Sullivan and other detectives as she kept kicking and spitting and screaming at the officers.

McGill was arrested on felony charges of assault of a child less than 7-years-old, assault of a police officer, resisting arrest and child endangerment. Erie County Child Protection Service workers had called police after finding the 5-year-old girl allegedly assaulted by McGill with bruises and welts from her head to her feet and suffering from hemorrhaging in both her ears. Sullivan refused medical treatment despite severe swelling on the left side of her face, and she continued working through the evening.
