Kleinhans Music Hall is a cabaret at 7:30 tonight when a party in the Mary Seaton Room of Kleinhans Music Hall celebrates two important anniversaries. One is the 90th anniversary of the Community Music School. The other is the 90th birthday of the great singing coach Andy Anselmo, who has helped shape talents including Mandy Patinkin and Liza Minnelli, and who went to the Community Music School when he was a boy.
The event, affectionately dubbed “88 Keys Plus 2,” features a fine talent lineup. Jazz crooner Michael Civisca is making a rare appearance, and in addition Buffalo will be welcoming cabaret duo Eric Comstock and Barbara Fasano, who have played such rooms as the Algonquin, Birdland and Lincoln Center. Drummer Carmen Intorre, another former Community Music School student, is bringing his trio. Rounding out the group is Caroline Jones, a young singer/songwriter from the New York City area who is an Anselmo protegee. Jones performed at an earlier event honoring Anselmo, prompting sports legend Ed Kilgore to joke that she had “more range than Ryan Fitzpatrick.”
Tickets are $40, and all proceeds benefit the Community Music School. VIP tickets are $100 and include preferred seating and admission to a post-concert reception. Call the Community Music School at 884-4887.
