Federal prosecutors have added two new tax charges to their grand jury indictment of Buffalo tow truck operator Jim Mazzariello.
A new indictment made public Wednesday accuses Mazzariello, head of Jim Mazz Auto, of filing false personal tax returns for two years. The previous indictment charged him with filing false business tax returns and conspiracy to pay bribes.
Mazzariello, accused of bribing Buffalo police officers who helped steer work to his company, claims the prosecution is retribution for his role in bringing “shakedowns" to the attention of law enforcement.
The new indictment is the result of an FBI-led investigation into Buffalo’s towing business.
