The WNY Flash couldn’t convert any of their scoring chances and lost to the host Chicago Red Stars, 1-0, in the National Women’s Soccer League.

Chicago’s Julie Johnston scored the game’s lone goal in the second half. She was Chicago’s first pick in the NWSL draft. She scored in the 59th minute after taking a corner kick from Vanessa DiBernardo, which she headed past Flash goalkeeper Lydia Williams.

The Flash was without Abby Wambach, who is still recovering from a fractured orbital bone while with the U.S. Women’s National Team. The Flash are off until May 3 when they make their home debut against the Portland Thorns FC.
