Newcomer announces plans to run for Lewiston town clerk

LEWISTON – Regina Scibilia Cecconi, a political newcomer, has announced her candidacy for Lewiston town clerk.

Cecconi, a Republican, is expected to face acting town clerk Donna R. Garfinkle, also a Republican, in the September primary. Garfinkle replaced longtime clerk Carol Brandon, who retired in December.

Cecconi is a recent magna cum laude graduate of Niagara University with a bachelor of arts degree and completed a master’s certificate program in human resources management through Villanova University. This past January she earned her professional human resources certification.

She has been an active member of the Lewiston-Porter community since 1991. She calls herself a “proud hockey mom” and was active in the Niagara Junior Purple Eagles Youth Hockey organization as a team manager, travel secretary, travel president and tournament coordinator.

She is the mother of two children.

Cecconi said that because of the reports of scandal and discord among its elected officials, Lewiston deserves someone that is not a member of the establishment who can provide “a fresh start and fresh ideas.”

She said she’d like to see office hours extended to give taxpayers more access. She also would like to improve the town clerk website, which she called difficult to navigate and cumbersome.
