Mount St. Mary’s Hospital awarded for their stroke care

LEWISTON – Mount St. Mary’s Hospital, a New York State Designated Stroke Center, has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s “Get With the Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award.” The award recognizes the hospital for its commitment in care for stroke patients.

To receive the award, Mount St. Mary’s met all of the “Get with the Guidelines” indicators for two or more 12-month intervals and compliance with six of the 10 designated guidelines which measure quality of care.

The measures of care include aggressive use of medications to reduce the potential for blood clots, as well as cholesterol reducing drugs and smoking cessation all aimed at reducing death and improving the lives of stroke patients.

“With a stroke, time lost is brain lost, and the ‘Get With The Guidelines–Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award’ demonstrates Mount St. Mary’s commitment to being one of the top hospitals in the country for providing aggressive, proven stroke care,” said hospital President and Chief Executive Officer Judith A. Maness.
