Death of 16-month-old Jamestown girl ruled a homicide

The death of a 16-month-old Jamestown girl Thursday has been ruled a homicide.

Jamestown police detectives are interviewing relatives and friends of the child, identified today as Nayla J. Hodnett.

The victim lived at 218½ Newland the city.

After the little girl’s mother took her to the emergency room of WCA Hospital in Jamestown late Wednesday, the child was rushed to Buffalo’s Women & Children’s Hospital, where she died later in the night.

After an autopsy Thursday afternoon in the Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office in Buffalo, the death was ruled a homicide due to blunt force trauma.

Jamestown detectives said today the investigation is continuing.

Police said a 3-year-old child who lived with the toddler and their mother on Newland Avenue was removed from the home by Chautauqua County Child Protective Services workers.

Police said the mother’s boyfriend occasionally stayed at the home on Newland.
