An Amherst collections agency will close this summer, putting 121 people out of work.
Primary Financial Services LLC filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice with the New York State Department of Labor on Monday. The call center, located in Suite 100 at 95 John Muir Drive, will close July 11, according to the filing.
In 2011, the company was sold to CBV Collection Services, a 93-year-old Canadian company based in North York, Ont. That sale included Primary Financial Services’ headquarters in Phoenix. CBV acquired another Buffalo collections agency, Pentagroup Financial, last year.
Primary Financial Services will keep 13 people in administrative roles in the Buffalo area and consolidate the rest of its work at the Arizona location. CBV will continue to do business in the United States as Primary Financial Services.
“We remain committed to the United States market and our U.S. clients,” said Bryan Waters, CEO of CBV.
Primary Financial Services collects debts on behalf of clients such as Toyota, Discover and the University of Phoenix, according to a current employee. Workers earn from $8 to $17 per hour, the employee said.
