Safe boating classes planned

MAYVILLE -- The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department will offer four safe boater classes free for young people between the ages of 10-17.

Successful students will receive a certificate for safe boating which is required for operation of motorized boats and personal watercraft. 

Persons age 18 and over may also attend and pay a $10 fee. No pre-registration is necessary. Students under age 18 will be required to bring a signed release from their parents. Release forms are available from the sheriff’s office website.

The classes will be on May 3 at the Lawson Center in Bemus Point, May 10 at the Cassadaga Fire Hall, May 17 at Southwestern Middle School and May 31 at the Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club in Dunkirk.  All classes are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Students should bring a bagged lunch.
