Motorcyclist, driver both arrested after Grand Island collision

A collision on Grand Island that sent a motorcyclist to Erie County Medical Center with a leg injury about 6 p.m. Sunday has led to charges against both a car driver and the injured motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist, Eugene A. Kelsey III, 36, remained a patient in ECMC on Monday evening. The Erie County Sheriff’s Office said he was charged with unlicensed operation of a motorcycle and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle for the crash on Grand Island Boulevard.

Anthony M. Viscuso, 35, of Kenmore, the car driver involved in the crash, was charged with driving while intoxicated. Witnesses said the car veered into the motorcyclist’s lane and knocked over the motorcycle. A passenger on the motorcycle signed off on medical treatment at the scene of the accident.

Viscuso, who was released from the sheriff’s Grand Island substation to a third party, faces proceedings in Grand Island Town Court in several weeks.
