TOWN OF LOCKPORT – A Gasport man has been charged with trying to smuggle commonly abused narcotic pain relief patches into the Niagara County Jail.

Justin A. Wittcop, 32, of Haseley Road, was arrested just before 6 p.m. Saturday when corrections officers said they discovered two packages of Fentanyl transdermal patches in his possession, along with a used patch. The powerful, morphine-like drug is commonly abused by chewing, and its abuse has been attributed to several deaths.

Wittcop was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and promoting prison contraband.
