The driver of a vehicle has been arrested after speeding away from police early Saturday morning and then crashing into a house on the East Side, seriously injuring his passenger.

Buffalo police report that they attempted to pull over the vehicle near Genesee Street and Newburgh Avenue, when it took off at a high rate of speed. A short time later the vehicle struck a house at Delavan and Newburgh avenues.

Anthony Watson, 35, of Buffalo, was charged with unlicensed operation of a vehicle and other charges.

His passenger, a 45-year-old man whose name was not released, was taken to Erie County Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition Saturday night.

Police say at least one person was in the house at the time of the crash.
