Two people killed in Lockport house fire

LOCKPORT – Two people were killed early this morning in a house fire on Crosby Avenue, the Lockport Police Department said.

A male and a female, whose names have not yet been released, died in the fire at 60 Crosby Ave., which was reported at 12:23 a.m.

Lockport police said Lt. Toby Trowbridge and Officer Dave Pytlik, responding to a report of two people trapped in the home, went into the burning house and found one resident inside and unconscious. The victim was removed from the home but officers were unable to resuscitate the victim.

Firefighters found the second victim dead inside the house, Lockport police said. “We’re still looking into the cause of the fire. The investigation is still ongoing,” said Lockport Detective Capt. Brian Wentland.

Authorities remained at the scene late this afternoon. Wentland said detectives have been combing through the scene all day searching for clues into where and how the fire might have started.

“That’s what we’re looking at,” added Wentland.

Wentland said police are still waiting to notify the next of kin before releasing the identities of the victims.

Both were dead at the scene, according to police.

The Lockport Union-Sun & Journal reported that a witness said flames were coming through the front window of the house as city firefighters arrived and later flames shot out of the roof and from one side.
