Stun gun used to subdue a suspect who fled from police

NIAGARA FALLS – A Niagara Falls man pulled over in a traffic stop and charged with drunken driving faces a number of additional charges after he attempted to flee from State Police on Sunday.

Derelle A. Palmer, 24, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, resisting arrest, second-degree obstruction of governmental administration, driving while intoxicated and multiple traffic violations. He was arraigned in City Court and posted an undisclosed amount of bail. A return court date is set for today

Troopers said there was a strong odor of marijuana in the vehicle and Palmer failed field sobriety tests. They said he fled on foot after he was informed of his arrest.

Following a short foot chase, a trooper discharged his stun gun and took Palmer into custody. Niagara County sheriff’s deputies assisted in the chase.

Palmer was found with 20 grams of marijuna, according to police.
