Silver Creek School Board holds second budget hearing

SILVER CREEK – The Silver Creek School Board held its second public meeting Wednesday on the 2014-15 district budget proposal.

The session included some options that board members are considering, with a slight increase in the amount of state aid that will be received by the district.

As proposed, the budget totals $22,047,044 – up about 2 percent from the current operating budget of $20,447,618. The amount to be raised by taxes will be up slightly, at $5,817,850.

Debt services and fees and services owed to the Board of Cooperative Educational Services account for some of the increases.

The district also budgeted for additional costs for pensions and benefits.

The tax rate would increase 50 cents per $1,000 valuation for property owners in the Town of Hanover, to $18.10. An average home assessed at $60,000 would see about $30 more in annual taxes. In Sheridan, the tax rate increase would be 71 cents.
