James A. Maloney, operated River Oaks Marina

James A. Maloney, operator of River Oaks Marina on Grand Island, died Wednesday at his Grand Island home. He was 80.

Born in Niagara Falls, Mr. Maloney graduated from LaSalle High School in 1951.

After graduation, he enlisted in the Army and served as private first class in the Korean War. He continued his military service as a member of the Army Reserve through 1962.

In the 1960s, he earned a business degree from the University at Buffalo School of Management.

A longtime project engineer for John W. Cowper Co., his career spanned from the late 1960s to 1981.

Later, in 1995, Mr. Maloney became the owner and operator of River Oaks Marina, a boatyard and marina.

He and his son James T. were owners and operators of the business until 2008.

Mr. Maloney remained an operator of the business up to the present date.

He was a longtime member of St. Stephen Catholic Church on Grand Island.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, the former Wendy Wozniak; two sons, James T. and Thomas K.; a brother, Lawrence; and two grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Stephen Church, 2100 Baseline Road, Grand Island.
