George A. Moore Jr., had long military career

Sept. 8, 1940 – April 7, 2014

George A. “Art” Moore Jr., of the Town of Tonawanda, who had a long career in the Navy, Air Force and Air National Guard, died Monday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Buffalo.

He was 73.

Born in Williamsport, Pa., he was a 1958 graduate of St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute and a 1962 graduate of Gannon College, Erie, Pa.

Mr. Moore joined the Navy in 1962 and later enlisted in the Air Force, where he attained the rank of chief master sergeant.

He served as a personnel craftsman, and a training and education officer. He retired in 1999.

Survivors include his wife, the former Elaine M. Privitera; two sons, John David and Paul M.; a daughter, Melissa Ann Svarczkopf; a sister, Mary L. Brill; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Thursday in St. Timothy Catholic Church, Town of Tonawanda.
